alpine hills studio

This website captures samples of some current artwork. The name of the site, Alpine Hills Studio, is based on the name of the neighborhood where I currently live and also happens to be the neighborhood where I grew up.

My mother also used Alpine Hills in her art business name, which was Alpine Hills Pottery & Painting. I contribute my beginning knowledge of art to her. Pottery is especially dear to me as I have many fond memories of playing with clay and learning to throw on the wheel at a really young age, around 7 or 8 years of age.

My fond memories included attending art shows with my mother, including Super Saturday held at The Evergreen State College (TESC). I made a small collection of pots that I learned to sell (including adding orders and making change) along side my mother and even sold my fist and only childhood watercolor painting by the age of 9.

Watercoloring was something I really only got into towards the end of high school and then it was mostly self taught. I have been painting off and on since then, Watercoloring is very personal to me. The enjoyment of painting means more than any finished product. And sharing my work is something I don't particularly care to do. Not because I don't want to share, but mostly because I don't do it for anybody else but me; and to put it bluntly I don't care to know if you don't like it or it's not your style. That is not the purpose. It has given me hours and hours of, as Mihály Csíkszentmihályi puts it, "Flow", or even therapy if you will and my finished pieces remind myself of such. I do however appreciate if you enjoy them.

Until recently my last years of touching clay were during my highschool years as my last pieces thrown at that time were done when a young man named Kevin Powers, now my husband, enlisted my help to teach him how to throw. Many years later in 2016 I reintroduced myself to pottery in a class at The Evergreen State College, TESC. At this point I fell in love with creating pottery again and am currently a member of TESC Clay Club. In the near future I will be claiming my mothers pottery equipment and I am excited about having a studio at my homestead located in Alpine Hills.

My artwork has improved some since I was a child. Please enjoy the more current samples provided to you on this site.
